COPPER
Copper is a mineral and an element essential to our everyday lives. It is a major industrial metal because of its high ductility, malleability, thermal and electrical conductivity and resistance to corrosion. Copper is one of the most ductile metals, not especially strong or hard. Strength and hardness are appreciably increased by cold-working because of the formation of elongated crystals of the same face-centred cubic structure that
is present in the softer annealed copper. Copper has a variety of desirable mechanical and chemical properties, making it one of the most versatile and extensively used materials. Copper’s properties can be further enhanced through the use of metal alloys making it the ideal choice for a wide range of metal stamping applications. Most copper is used in electrical equipment such as wiring and motors. This is because it conducts both heat and electricity very well, and can be drawn into wires. It also has uses in construction (for example roofing and plumbing), and industrial machinery (such as heat exchangers).
